What is 'Breathing Space?'

Breathing Space is an album of music and spoken word inspired by Freeman's Wood and by land, nature, common ground and the importance of having unplanned wild spaces in our lives for our own sanity and the environment.

It's purpose is to raise money for the legal fund to protect Freemans' Wood from property development.

It will be for sale as a download for £3 with all funds going directly to the cause.

Who's involved so far?

We have exclusive music from Preston based synth genius Polypores, a track from the amazing local Lancaster legends the Balkanics, spanish influenced guitar from Howard Haigh and righteous anger from local artist Anna Oakes-Monger .

"A great cause" - John Robb - lead singer of the mighty Membranes

Support from the greatest radio show of all time, Steve Barker's On The Wire

How can you help?

If you are a musician of any kind, you could donate a track to the project. We really don't care about the genre, more variety the better. Ideally the music would have some kind of connection to the kind of place Freeman's Wood is (scrubland on the edge of town, beautiful in an understated way, home to loads of nature, dog walkers, people up to no good, equal parts beautiful flocks of swallows diving for insects and scrambling bikes and bmxs) , but don't worry too much about that.

If you are a local person we want some voice recordings of what the woods means to you. Don't worry about sound quality!

We would like anything, poetry or prose, observations, memories, whatever. Even if you just want to say you walk the dog and wouldn't have anywhere else to go if the field gets built on!

The wood is for everyone, we want to capture as many voices as we can.

Sounds good. What do I do now?
